Giving

It is our privilege at Barrel no. 51 to donate 25% of our profits to responsible, non-profit organizations dedicated to helping people in need.

Susan G. Komen Organization

Susan G. Komen for the Cure was estabished in 1982 by Nancy Brinker to honor the memory of her sister, Susan G. Komen, who died from breast cancer at the age of 36. It is a national organization with a network of volunteers working through local affiliates and Komen Race for the Cure® events fighting to eradicate breast cancer as a life-threatening disease by advancing research, education, screen, and treatment.

In our continuing efforts to be a benefit to our community, and in wanting to honor Sara's mom who passed away from cancer in 2005, we decided to specify that profits from all sales of our newest sauce, Lady J's Smokin' Chipotle Sandwich because of its reputation among the non-profit community, and because they give over 80% of each donated dollar to the research programs. That's important to us. We want the biggest bang for our buck and they do a terrific job of getting the money to where it does the most good. We encourage you to follow the link we've provided and making a generous donation to the cure.

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital

St. Jude is unlike any other pediatric treatment and research facility anywhere. Discoveries made here have completely changed how the world treats children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases. We are where some of today’s most gifted researchers are able to do more science, more quickly. Where doctors across the world send their toughest cases and most vulnerable patients. Where no one pays for treatment beyond what is covered by insurance, and those without insurance are never asked to pay. We’ve built America’s 3rd-largest health-care charity, with a model that keeps the costs down and the funds flowing, so the science never stops. All patients accepted for treatment at St. Jude are treated without regard to the family’s ability to pay.

World Concern

Sara, our matriarch, took a trip to Bolivia in May 2007 with World Concern out of Seattle. World Concern makes mini-loans to women in third world countries in order to help them establish home based businesses that will assist them in raising their standard of living. It was a mind expanding adventure… she doesn’t even like going to Albertson’s by herself…and she came back excited to see what our donations would be going for.

We have adopted World Concern as a charity that we want to support. Perhaps you would like to help us as well. From time to time, we’re going to be offering items for sale that are coming from these families in Bolivia. When you purchase them through our site, 100% of the proceeds will go directly back to the people who perform the craft. No profit will be taken, and the cost of the item is our donation.

If you’d like to participate directly, visit World Concern’s website. Here you’ll find how you can help a family by buying them a flock of chicks so they can have meat and sell eggs. Perhaps a goat for a family so they can have fresh milk… this is what Sara got me (Paul) for Valentine’s Day… I think she said something about my being an old goat… but I might have misunderstood. Think about it, and then act. They have a terrific program, and they literally change lives from the ground up.
